SUBMISSION 4637. Correspondences are more than “ordinary comparisons.” 4654. Spirits of the external ear: “There were spirits with me who flowed in very strongly into my thought when it was exercised upon such things as were of Providence, and especially when I was thinking that the things I awaited and desired were not coming to pass.” 4658.3. Learning to dance from a knowledge of motor fibres and muscles: “he who wishes to think artificially from terms is not unlike a dancer who wants to learn to dance from a knowledge of the motor fibers and muscles; but if while he… Read more »

ACV6S25-Judy ……..”these twelve chiefs are as the twelve tribes, according to their disposal by good; “these are the sons of Esau, and these are their chiefs,” signifies that these are the principal of the truths of good; “he himself is Edom,” signifies in the Lord’s Divine Human. ” Task: Explore the significance between these 12 tribes (chiefs) and the twelve tribes of Israel. Is there any difference and why? How, why does it relate to my spiritual journey? Observations: In reflecting on this passage over the period, it became clear to me at this point in time, that my process… Read more »

ACV6S25-Len “….. For the things which are in the Divine never appear to anyone, but the things which are from the Divine appear in a very general manner according to the understanding into which they fall, and yet only as faint outlines. Be it known moreover that no man is born into any good, but everyone into evil: into interior evil from his father, and into exterior evil from his mother; for everyone’s heredity is evil…..” Task: To see if the text can be put to use by me as I bring it to mind. In summary I am working… Read more »

At the beginning of the session the posting of Jeff Benner’s Genesis 36 got me very excited. I charted out the Arcana first then took Young’s Literal Translation with Jeff Benner’s proper nouns (“all names in the Word have spiritual realities as their meaning” AC 4642.3) and taking into account Benner’s point that in OT Hebrew the language itself is about function, never appearance—I tried to move the literal descriptive names into “vague outlines” “general impressions” and “feelings for” function… 36 these [are] births of DOING, who RED (What is produced when doing in love, warmth of good) 2 DOING hath (joined… Read more »

4652, 2 “. . . it is the spirit which has the powers of speech and hearing” should remind me, whenever I pause to reflect on speaking or hearing, that I HAVE, or AM, a spirit that acts through a natural body in this world, and that I exist in a spiritual community influenced by other communities, angelic and devilish, trying to pull me in opposite directions.
Be alert to where my spirit is being pulled, and cooperate with the good spirits. ~ Harald

Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan means the first joining of Natural good to the affection for apparent truth.4643 Task: Be observant of what truths or apparent truths I work under. I spent the entire time being a foolish virgin, embodying hollow faith and drowning in my own ownership of what is good in life. It felt as though I couldn’t catch a glimmer of any of the Lord’s reality, and was solely focused on the poor version I had created. But when some perspective ( from the Lord ) came back, I could see that I… Read more »

I found it interesting that the refrain throughout the explanation of the chapter is: “You won’t be able to understand this, even angels don’t.” And then at the end was a description of spirits of the ear who are those who accept without understanding, almost in a negative light. Also, inside the text was a description of the Lord replacing the merely human body with His Divine Human. So if the literal sense of the Word is His natural body, the merely human is my natural understanding of the Word, which is bound up in self. This must be replaced… Read more »

Arcana Coelestia 4638. “…. and to ‘sleep’ is to cherish doubt– the prudent a doubt in which there is affirmation; the foolish a doubt in which there is negation. ” 4658. Way to think~~ As Swedenborg talked to Aristotle (who proved to be sane) Aristotle commented that if one wans to be a fool he thinks in an inverted order; ” ‘but rather let him continually think of use and from within.’ ” Work Focus: In my evening thinking time visit or revisit some things in the doctrines that challenge me. As much as possible think from within and focus… Read more »

4638:[4] ”
…To “slumber” in the internal sense is to grow sluggish from the delay in the things of the church, and to “sleep” is to cherish doubt…But at midnight a cry was made;… The “cry” denotes a change.”
Work focus: Try to be part of the ‘Shout’ that rouses the wise from drowsiness. The Word says that the drowsiness comes from delay in spiritual matters. My task is to observe when I put off or delay engagement in the active life of regeneration.

4642 For doctrinal things are like a body to truth, or in a spiritual sense are the bodily things of natural truth. Hence it is that by Edom is represented the Lord’s Divine Human in respect to the natural and the corporeal. Doctrine is as it were the embodiment of truth, because doctrine is not in itself truth, but truth is in doctrine as the soul in its body. 4659 Be it known however that the spirit of man is in the whole and every part of his body, and that it is its purer substance, both in its organs… Read more »

4638(10) Watch therefore, for you do not know the day, nor the hour, in which the so of Man will be coming means an eagerness to live according to the commandments constituting a person’s faith, meant by ‘watching’. The actual time of acceptance which is unknown to a person, and his state then, are meant by ‘you do not know the day,nor the hour, in which the son of man will be coming’. One who is governed by good , that is, whose deeds conform to the commandments , is called ‘wise’, but one who has knowledge of truth, yet… Read more »

4638[3] ..The prudent took oil in there vessels with their lamps = having good of charity and of love in truth; oil = good from love, vessels = doctrinal things of faith.
Task: Meditate on the balance between love and doctrine. Doctrine without love is dead, love without truth is not loving.

Ac4638:3
How can I know if I am foolish or prudent? How can I know of the good within a truth, unless it’s communicated by others (5)? Is there sufficient affection in me that I may be sensitive and receptive to the good and love contained within truth….or am I without affection for the good inherent in the truth and am therefore blind to it?
Task: Strive to become awake to this affection in myself when reading the Word; try to ‘Watch’.

Arcana Vol 6 Session 25 (new) No 4653 discusses the spirits who correspond to hearing, or who constitute the province of the ear. These are they who are in simple obedience, that is, they do not reason whether a thing is so, but believe it to be because others have said so. These are described as being “passive” because they acquiesce. How does this teaching about “spirits of the ear” apply to my state? If acquiesce means giving passive assent to someone else’s ideas – and not reflecting on the truth of the matter for myself – then I am… Read more »

AC. 4638.9
His not knowing them means in the internal sense that they were not in any charity toward the neighbor and thereby in conjunction with the Lord.

Work focus:
As I do my daily spiritual work, take a minute to reflect on and see if I can connect, the internal work I am doing to serving other people. Am I trying to improve myself to make other peooles lives better? Then throughout the day, try to notice if what I am doing is for the end of charity towards the neighbor of just for myself.

AC4657 …”It shows that many of them are the sort who note the vices and failing of others, and when no one else is listening tell their companions about those vices and failings, or if other people are within earshot whisper them in the ear. They see and put a sinister interpretation on everything and set themselves above others.”
