AC4729 – There are three sources of falsity, one the doctrine of the church, another the fallacy of the sense, and the third a life of cupidities. Task: Identify falsities that I have and work on one of them. Observation: I was drawn to self-examination and prayer this week as I looked to the falsities of the senses and falsities from the desires of this earthly life. I noticed just how much I trust in myself and not in the Lord. I was made aware of just how much power the senses have to convince me that I am alone… Read more »

ACV6 S29: AC 4722-4738 4723: ..the LORD’s Human is Divine (repeatedly throughout the reading) ..love to the LORD and charity toward the neighbour make the church and not faith separate from love and charity. 4727: [2] ..it is love to the LORD and charity toward the neighbour that make man new [2] From His Divine Human proceeds all the wisdom, all the intelligence, and also all the light, in heaven. 4729: [1] ..for what man wills from the heart, he desires. [2] For whatever man wills, he thinks; and therefore when he wills evil from cupidity, he thinks it and… Read more »

ACV6S29-Len #4727-2…”[2] Those who are in faith alone cannot know what makes man new or sanctifies him, still less what made the Lord’s Human Divine; for they know nothing of love and charity, and it is love to the Lord and charity toward the neighbor that make man new and sanctify him, while the Divine love itself made the Lord Divine. For love is the very being of man, and hence is his living; and it forms man according to an image of itself, just as the soul of man, which is his interior essence, as it were creates or… Read more »

ACV6S29-Judy #4729…..”For there are three sources of falsity, one the doctrine of the church, another the fallacy of the senses, and the third a life of cupidities. That which is from the doctrine of the church takes hold of man’s intellectual part only; for he is persuaded from infancy that it is so, and confirmatory things afterwards strengthen it. But that which is from the fallacy of the senses does not so much affect the intellectual part; for those who are in falsity from the fallacy of the senses have but little insight from the understanding, because they think from… Read more »

Ac 4729 . ” ‘And let us say, An evil wild animal has devoured him’ means a lie invented out of a life of evil desires….Falsity arising from a life of evil desires however springs from the will itself, or what amounts to the same, from the heart, for a person desires that which he wills from the heart. This is the worst kind of falsity because it clings and is not rooted out except by means of a new life received from the Lord.” Task: consider my own evil desires of the heart I started out thinking that I… Read more »

Hi everyone, back after a lengthy hiatus. Began using the ‘in me’ tool when reading the whole text and it really began opening up, seeing the explanations of scripture as playing out in my mind. #4724[4] But those who live a life of faith, on bended knees and with humble hearts adore the Lord as God the saviour, and do not then at all think from doctrine of the distinction between the Divine and the human nature; and they do this the same with the holy supper. Hence it is plain that with them the Lord’s Divine human is in… Read more »

This is Gretchen. The Bible story of Jacob and his sons was written way before the Lord came on earth. A long time after that, when He came on earth, the Lord SHOWED people His Divine Human: His fighting wrongs and His love and compassion for others. Then in the 1700s the Lord had Swedenborg write about Jacob and his sons and show how this applied to the Lord Himself and His Divine Human. Faith requires thinking and understanding. The fundamental of charity is to DO the right thing, having thought about it and wanting to benefit others. FOCUIS: Be… Read more »

4723 Anyone who represents Divine Truth in general also represents the specific aspects of Divine Truth. But which specific aspect is represented at any point is evident from the train of thought. 4727 Love constitutes a person’s very being (esse), and lies at the root of the life he leads. That Divine love fashions him to be an image of itself, being much like the human soul – a person’s inner and essential self – which so to speak creates or moulds the body into an image of itself, so that it uses the body to enable it to act… Read more »

4735 [2] The Lord’s Human, after it was glorified or made Divine, cannot be thought of as human, but as the Divine love in human form; and this so much the more than the angels, who, when they appear (as seen by me), appear as forms of love and charity under the human shape, and this from the Lord; for the Lord from Divine love made His Human Divine; just as man through heavenly love becomes an angel after death, so that he appears, as just said, as a form of love and charity under the human shape. It is… Read more »

AC 4730, 3: “The fundamental requirement of charity is to act in an upright and just way in everything connected with one’s duty or function.” TASK: What does this mean “in me” nine years into retirement? What is my duty or function? Surely it means being a good husband. That means putting her needs before mine. Things get more complicated when one adds in charity toward the neighbor at the various levels of neighbor, up through one’s country and the world. Pay taxes uprightly. Obey laws, including traffic laws, rather than thinking: “I know better, so I can speed, or… Read more »

Selection of readings: This reading strongly repeated that “That the Lord’s Human is Divine…is the supreme or inmost truth of the church” 4731 and “The acknowledgment and adoration of the Lord’s Divine Human is the life of religion” 4733 and “There are two essentials which constitude the church, and hence two principle things of doctrine, one, that the Lord’s Human is Divine; the other, that love to the Lord and charity towards the neighbor make the church, and not faith separate from love and charity.” 4723. I took note of the repetition of this message regarding the opposite of faith… Read more »

4727. Come now therefore and let us slay him. That this signifies the extinction of the essential of doctrine concerning the Lord’s Divine Human, is evident from the signification of “slaying,” as being to extinguish; and from the representation of Joseph, whom they wished to kill, as being the Divine truth of the Lord, and specifically the doctrine concerning His Divine Human, which has been shown above to be an essential of doctrine (n. 4723). That the church in acknowledging faith alone has extinguished this essential truth, Work Focus: When do I disregard the uncomfortable promptings of conscience? This is… Read more »

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eat of this bread he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is My flesh. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He that eateth My flesh and drinketh My blood abideth in… Read more »

WORK FOCUS 4735.2 The Lord’s Human, after it was glorified or made Divine, cannot be thought of as human, but as the Divine love in human form 4729.2 The confirmations of evil by the thought are what are called falsities from a life of cupidities. These falsities appear to [me] as truths In the states when it becomes conscious that I am confirming evil by false thoughts which I am believing are true, bring in a sense of the listening quality in Reuben’s wish to claim as the supreme or inmost truth of the church that the Lord’s Human is… Read more »

4728. And cast him into one of the pits. That “pits” are falsities, is because men who have been in principles of falsity are after death kept awhile under the lower earth, until falsities have been removed from them, and as it were rejected to the sides. These places are called “pits,” and those who go into them are such as must be in vastation. 4729. For there are three sources of falsity, one the doctrine of the church, another the fallacy of the senses, and the third a life of cupidities. (Cupidity – evil or excessive desire) That which… Read more »

4726. But when the Word is open to the internal sense, and it is taught what its particulars represent and signify, then such as are in faith alone reject these things as empty, saying they are of no use…
“Empty” = not grounded in daily life? Viewed as irrelevant? When do I fail to make the connection between a spiritual principle and the life I lead?

“….. the Divine love itself… love toward the whole human race… wills to save them, and to make them blessed and happy to eternity….”

Work Focus: When I find myself feeling less rhan loving towards a fellow human, reflect on how the :LORD sees them. Then pray for that person’s eternal well being. (And try not to be a stumbling block for them!)

4728 (1) The reason “pits” means falsities is that people who are immersed in false assumptions are kept for a considerable time after death beneath the lower earth, until falsities have been removed from them and so speak cast away to the sidelines. The places situated there are called pits. Those who go there are people who have to undergo vastation. 4828(8) Because a pit means falsity , and “the blind” those who are immersed in falsity….” 4729 (2) Consequently when his desires lead him to will what is evil he is also thinking about it and confirming it. And… Read more »

The Task is to reflect on the holy supper, the flesh, bread, blood and wine, and in what way I may do violence against this.

Many similarities between session 28 and this one jumped out at me, (in me?). Along with these readings came a number from AR 462, on “Enchantments”. See the numbers below. How often does this story play out in my life? What proprial enchantments do I allow to dominate my spiritual landscape? Are “False Witnesses” twisting what is True and throwing them into a “Pit” in the “Wilderness”? AC 4717..”when anyone starts with a false principle and from it deduces consequences, these also become false, because the principle rules in the consequents, and by these the false principle is also strengthened.”… Read more »
