4776 …The veriest truth of the church is that love to the Lord and love towards the neighbour are primary things…[and] no one can receive the truths of faith…but he who is in a life of charity. Task: Practice, practice, practice being charitable I had a meeting with someone this week who go quite upset with me. In that moment, I remembered mindfulness. I observed the reaction that was welling up inside of me to defend and fight back but was able to dismiss those feelings and not give in. As I listened, I tried to identify what might be… Read more »

4769.5 ‘he-goats’ means those who do not have any charity even though they have truths if faith – that is, they are adherents to faith separated from charity TASK: Discern between working for the work’s sake and working compulsively. Observations: The key word turned out to be ‘adherent’ in the verb form. It was helpful to see what I was “stuck to” in various states. In the end, the freeing thing was not so much to pay attention to what I was working for, but to identify what state to work against. Mechanically driven behavior does not include ‘other’; not… Read more »

lp | 5.27.2019 4776: A life of cupidities consists in loving self only, and not the neighbor except from self, or for the sake of self. Hence those who are in this life extinguish charity in themselves; and those who extinguish charity, extinguish also love to the Lord; for there is no other means of loving the Lord than charity, because the Lord is in charity…willing well to another, to society, to one’s country, to the church, to the Lord’s kingdom, and thus to the Lord Himself…When a life of cupidities speaks concerning these truths, are not they defiled to… Read more »

sorry typed all this earlier but………”.4769 (1)…… And they reduce other truths to the same level by the use of interpretations, and in this way they present falsities as appearances of truth. 2. This meaning of ‘a he-goat of the she-goats’ as adherents to faith separated from charity….” 4769(2) ……Consequently they did not think of their expected Christ or Messiah anyone other than a King who would exalt them above all nations and people throughout the world and would make these subject to them as the meanest slaves…….. 4769(3) … From this one may see what is meant by ‘it… Read more »

#4783….”For the internal sense exists in the light of heaven because it is the Word as angels know it, whereas the sense of the letter exists in the light of the world because it is the Word as men know it before they come to the light of heaven received from the Lord, by which light they are then enlightened….”
Task: To observe whether I operate from the letter of the Word or from the internal sense of the Word.

4776(5) All this is a product of what is entering their love, it being merely the different forms their affections take that lead to the different results their life produces. Their love includes all this. So what would heavenly love include if the human being was governed by heavenly love? Would not the whole of wisdom and intelligence as these exist in heaven be included? From this too it is evident that those who have led charitable lives, these and no others, are accepted into heaven, and that because they have charity they have the ability to accept and take… Read more »

Struggling with time a bit so thank you David Moffat for helping me chose a passage! 4776 . A life of cupidities consists in loving self only, and not the neighbor except from self, or for the sake of self. Hence those who are in this life extinguish charity in themselves; and those who extinguish charity, extinguish also love to the Lord; for there is no other means of loving the Lord than charity, because the Lord is in charity. 4779 [8] As being clothed in sackcloth and rolling in ashes represented mourning over evils and falsities, it also represented… Read more »

Val Rogers: AC 4770 There are three origins of falsity; the doctrines of the church, falsities of the senses, and a life of cupidities. AC 4776: A life of cupidities consists in loving self only, and not the neighbor except from self, or for the sake of self..for there is noother means of loving the Lord than charity. Task: To try to distinguish the sources of falsities in myself. (For instance, I sometimes doubt Providence because of war and suffering in the world, which would be a falsity from the senses.) So whenever I am in a negative state to… Read more »

4776. An evil wild beast hath devoured him. That this signifies that the cupidities of evil had extinguished it, is evident from the signification of an “evil wild beast,” as being a lie from a life of cupidities (n. 4729), consequently cupidities; and from the signification of “devouring,” as being to extinguish, because predicated of the truth of the church. The veriest truth of the church is that love to the Lord and love toward the neighbor are the primary things (Mark 12:29-31). Cupidities extinguish this truth; for those who are in a life of cupidities cannot be in a… Read more »

FOCUS PASSAGE 4779. Section 8. “… the primary thing of humiliation is to acknowledge that of himself one is nothing but evil and falsity. The same is true of repentance, which is effected solely through humiliation, and this through the confession of the heart that of himself one is of such a nature.” 21/5/19. Last night I had an odd dream. I was attending a Jewish meeting. During our time together, we received word that an angry mob were headed our way, with violent intentions. So, we escaped into the night. But outside, we met a group of zombies, who… Read more »

4783. [4] The reason why they who are in faith separate so believe is that if they were told that the body will not rise again, they would wholly deny any resurrection, for they do not know nor apprehend what the internal man is, since no one can know what the internal man is, and his life after death, save he who is in charity, for charity is of the internal man. 4787. [4] From this it is evident that those who do good from good, do it from internal affection; while those who do good from truth, do it… Read more »

Text: 4783 [2] That by interpretations from the sense of the letter the Word can be so explained as to favor anything, is very manifest from the fact that all kinds of doctrines, and even of heresies, are thus confirmed, as for instance the dogma concerning faith separate is confirmed by these words of the Lord: God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but should have eternal life (John 3:16); from which words, and also from other passages, it is concluded that faith alone without works is… Read more »

No 4776 [4] states that “…all things are in the loves, for the loves are what make the life; consequently, the Lord’s life flows solely into the loves. Such therefore as are the loves, such are the lives…”

The focus for this session is to examine daily what it is that I love. Do I love anything except what serves the self?

Arcana Coelestia #4776 [2] “The man who has not lived in charity cannot possibly know that heaven and its joy consists in willing well and in doing well from willing well, because his heaven is willing well to himself….. when yet this is hell. For heaven is distinguished from hell in this, that heaven, as above said, is doing good from good-will, and hell is doing evil from ill-will.” And also #4788 [3] “Those who are in good are in the affection of doing good for the sake of good, and without recompense from others; for it is recompense to… Read more »

4776: “an evil wild beast hath devoured him”. Yearnings extinguish this truth. 4729: “falsity which is from a life of yearnings springs from the will itself, or what is the same, from the heart….This falsity is the worst of all, because it inheres, and… Read more »

4776 – [5] The bees also know how to build cells, to suck honey from flowers, to fill with it the honeycombs, and to make provision for themselves against winter, and even to conduct a certain form of government under a queen; besides other marvels. All these things are effected by influx into their loves; the effects of life being varied only by the forms of their affections. All these things are in their loves; what then would there not be in heavenly love, if man were in this? Would there not be the all of wisdom and intelligence, which… Read more »

AC 4776, “An evil Wild beast hath devoured him”. (me)… This afternoon, while driving my grandson home on a long and sometimes serpentine stretch of road, I noticed another car travelling so close behind me that I could not even see the front bumper in the rear view mirror. Had I been by myself I may have done a better job at Not allowing the “evil wild beast” to take over my brain. So, on returning home I re-read the numbers which jumped out at me for this session, and had some striking realizations. For about the past 2 or… Read more »
