Dianna Synnestvedt Text: CL 59 When a person enters marriage a person then becomes a more complete human being because he is united with a partner with whom he may act as one person…He starts from the fleshly element and progresses into the natural….People who in this state love fleshly natural elements and the rational elements only on account of these, cannot be united with their partner as though into one except in respect to these external elements. When the external elements fade, the inward ones are invaded by coldness which takes away the delights of this love…..And this finally reaches… Read more »

AC#4793 “Yet wandering about there are spirits belonging to the hellish crew…[2]…the nature of it (interior obsession) may be seen if people pay attention to their thoughts and affections…” #4794 “…a human being has all sensory powers after death but not taste…” Task: consider if I believe Swedenborg’s writings to be true because this part about the taste seems sort of weird …mulled this over for a few days…yes I do believe the Writings to be true…from the Divine…IS the Lord revealing himself to humans… then I jumped right into the realization that I AM part of this hellish crew:… Read more »

Submission: There were on-going opportunities to be in touch with the reading this session; a continual opportunity to work which I took, then went unconscious, then woke up, then pitched into hell, was gifted with forgetting myself, fell into a pond of self-pity, etc. etc. A couple of very good dreams. One where I was the woman with the stench and it was so clear how there is no way to hide a stench. The other dream had me returning to a little store I would pass on my way walking to and from school from K- 12. In the… Read more »

ACVS33-Judy #….”Yet there are roaming spirits of the infernal crew, more pernicious than others, who because they had accustomed themselves in the life of the body to enter into man’s affections for the purpose of doing harm, in the other life also retain this desire, and strive in every way to enter into man’s taste, and when they have entered into it they possess his interiors, that is, the life of his thoughts and affections, for as before said they correspond, and things which correspond act as a one……….. [2] Interior obsessions are effected by such spirits, and their quality… Read more »

ACV6S33-Len #4802…”There are also spirits who though evil still in some measure admit the light of heaven and receive the truths of faith, so that they have some perception of truth. They also eagerly receive truths, yet not for the purpose of living according to them, but that they may glory in seeming more intelligent and sharpsighted than others; for the intellect of man is such that it can receive truths, and yet truths are not appropriated to any but those who live according to them. Unless man’s intellect were such he could not be reformed.” Task: Be awake to… Read more »

4794. A spirit, or man after death, has all the senses that he had while he lived in the world, namely, sight, hearing, smell, and touch; but not taste, but instead of it something analogous which is adjoined to the sense of smell. The reason why he has not taste is that he may not be able to enter into the taste of man and thus possess his interiors; also that this sense may not turn him away from the desire of knowing and of being wise, thus from spiritual appetite. analogous means comparable in certain respects, typically in a… Read more »

FOCUS PASSAGES. 4793. Section 2. Interior obsessions. The quality (of such spirits) may be seen if one pays attention to the thoughts and affections, especially to the interior intentions, which men fear to manifest. 4796. … when angels present themselves to the sight, … the face is an external form and representative image of them. It is not permitted in heaven to have any other face than that of one’s affections. 4798. [The faces of evil spirits are ghastly, like those of corpses, …] But in their own light and among themselves they appear otherwise, from fantasy. 4799. [Spirits from… Read more »

4793. [4] Such obsessions cannot be avoided unless the man is in the affection of good, and hence in faith in the Lord. Principle: A safeguard against obsessions and evil in general, is an affection for the Lord and doing good. 4795. From all this it is evident why the tongue is assigned a double office, namely, the office of aiding in speech, and that of aiding in nourishment. For insofar as it aids in nourishment it corresponds to the affection of knowing, understanding, and being wise as to truths; for which reason also wisdom [sapientia] and being wise [sapere]… Read more »

4792. As food and nourishment correspond to spiritual food and nourishment, therefore taste corresponds to the perception and affection of this food. Spiritual food is knowledge, intelligence, and wisdom, for from these, spirits and angels live and are nourished, and they desire and have appetite for them just as men who are hungry desire and have appetite for food. 4795. TEXT: AC 4803 When they [those spirits and angels of the mouth in the Grand Human] are being perfected they are reduced to this – that they do not speak anything but what is of service to their companions, to the common good, to heaven and to the Lord. The delight of so speaking is enhanced with them in the degree of the loss of the desire to regard themselves in their speech and to seek wisdom from their own. TASK: To speak only that which will be of service to others, the common good, heaven and the Lord; to… Read more »

Val Rogers: AC 4803 They who correspond to the mouth…When they are being perfected they are reduced to this – that they do not speak anything but what is of service to their companions, to the common good, to heaven and to the Lord. The delight of so speaking is enhanced with them in the degree of the loss of the desire to regard themselves in their speech and to seek wisdom from their own. Task: To try for this period to speak nothing but what is of service as stated above, and to pray for forgiveness and help when… Read more »

Task: “Quicken Thou me according to Thy Word.” When I feel disinclined to read or apply the Word, ask the Lord to help me NOT avoid it, hide from it or tune it out.

AC4805 (2) “But I was allowed to tell them that the Lord’s heaven is boundless and that it consisted of those from every people and language, and that all are in heaven in whom the good of love and faith existed.” 4804 ….”From this I was enabled to know how much harm friendship does to someones spiritual life if he pays attention to the person but not to what is good . Anyone can indeed befriend another; but most of all he ought to befriend what is good.” 4802 (2) But there they put their ability to understand truths to… Read more »

Arcana Coelestia # 4804. The whole number, teaching about societies of friendship. The number concludes: “…. it was given me to know how much injury friendship occasions man as to his spiritual life if the person and not the good is regarded; every one may indeed be friendly to another , but still should be most friendly to what is good.” Work Focus: I see already that I fall into this frequently. Perhaps not with whole friendships, but with comments that I make to others. It is very tempting in my field~~ where “we” see and discuss (as part of… Read more »
