4825 to be affected by external things only is idolatrous, for it is to worship wood and stone, and also the gold and silver with which they are covered, from a phantasy that they are holy in themselves 4818 [4] …the evil of the love of self believe[s] that Jehovah has chosen a single nation only, and that all the rest of mankind are relatively slaves, and so vile that they may be killed at pleasure or be cruelly treated … and confirm[s] this belief from the sense of the letter of the Word …These are they spoken of in… Read more »

AC 4825: “. . . having an affection for external things alone is idolatry.” Also 4825, 2: “Among those governed by self-love and love of the world internal idolatry exists, for they worship themselves and they worship the world.”

I don’t think I worship myself, but sometimes I think I do some cool stuff, and I’m glad if someone notices.

TASK: To catch myself when I do this and call it what it is: INTERNAL IDOLATRY.

4807 end. Everyone carries his judgement with him because he carries his life. 4809 section 2. For the angels are recipients of the life of truth proceeding from the Lord’s divine good, and in so far as they receive, so far they are angels. I also read 7295. Section 2. “… When they first enter that life from the world they have good spirits and angels attached to them, as they did when they were people living in the body; for even wicked people also have angels present with them, the reason being that they are then able to turn,… Read more »

4814 (3) But it should be realised that in general there are two kinds of state – a state involving good and one involving truth. The former is called a state of being (esse), but the latter a state of manifestation (existere), for being is the essential characteristic of good and the manifestation of this is the essential characteristic of truth. Space corrresponds to a state of being , time to a state of manifestation. 4818(4) As an example to explain what this evil is like, take those who from the evil of self-love believe the following: One nation alone… Read more »

4823 2] In the Word “man and wife,” and also “husband and wife,” are often mentioned; and when “man and wife” are mentioned, by “man” is signified truth, and by “wife” good, and in the opposite sense by “man” is signified falsity, and by “wife” evil; but when “husband and wife” are mentioned, good is signified by “husband,” and truth by “wife,” and in the opposite sense evil is signified by “husband,” and falsity by “wife.” The reason of this mystery is this: in the celestial church the husband was in good, and the wife in the truth of this… Read more »

Chosen text: 4825 …For idolatry consists not only in worshiping idols, graven images, and other gods, but also in worshiping external things without their internals. In this that nation was continually idolatrous, adoring external things only, and entirely removing internal things, not being willing even to know about them. They had indeed holy things with them-as the tent of meeting, with the ark, the mercy-seat on it, the tables on which were the loaves, the lampstand, incenses, and the altar outside the tent, on which were offered burnt-offerings and sacrifices – all which things were called holy; and the inmost… Read more »

4825 For idolatry consists not only in worshiping idols, graven images, and other gods, but also in worshiping external things without their internals. 4818[3] Evil from the falsity of evil is evil of life from false doctrine which has been hatched by the evil of the love of self (that is, by those who are in this evil), and confirmed by the sense of the letter of the Word. This evil is of such a nature that it closes every way to the internal man, insomuch that nothing of conscience can be formed therein; for the evil which a person… Read more »

No. 4825 states that “…idolatry consists not only of worshipping idols, graven images, and other gods, but also worshipping externals things without their internals.”

The work focus asks me to examine myself for worshipping and loving externals without knowing and loving the internals. Look for the internals by seeing the “use.”

” For those born before him meant falsity and evil ( falsity realized in action), …from this it follows that the third son means idolatry ( worship of external things devoid of internal ones) , for these two-falsity and evil- lead to idolatry and are contained within it.” 4825
Task: observe the 3 sons in me. When one of them is found, trace back to the former brother(s) to see if the prior state can be seen in hindsight. Acknowledge that if something is seen it is from the Lord and His gift.

4821. And she conceived, and bare a son. That this signifies that the falsity of the church was thence derived, is evident from the signification of “conceiving and bearing,” as being to acknowledge in faith and act (n. 3905, 3915, 3919); and from the signification of a “son,” as being the truth of the church, but in the opposite sense falsity 4823. And she conceived again, and bare a son. That this signifies evil, is evident from the signification of a “son,” as being truth, and also good (n. 264); thus in the opposite sense falsity and also evil, but… Read more »

4807 2] And all the holy angels with Him;
signifies the angelic heaven. The “holy angels” are the truths which are from the Lord’s Divine good; for by “angels” in the Word are not meant angels, but those things which are from the Lord (see n. 1925, 4085); for the angels are recipients of the life of truth proceeding from the Lord’s Divine good, and insofar as they receive, so far they are angels. Task: to acknowledge and accept that all good is from the Lord alone.

AC 4809 [2] The “holy angels” are the truths which are from the Lord’s Divine good; for by “angels” in the Word are not meant angels, but those things which are from the Lord (see n. 1925, 4085); for the angels are recipients of the life of truth proceeding from the Lord’s Divine good, and insofar as they “receive”, so far they are angels. From this it is plain that “angels” are these truths. As the subject here treated of is the state of everyone after death, and the judgment of everyone according to his life, it is said that… Read more »

AC 4809:” As the subject here treated of is the state of everyone after death, and the judgment of everyone according to his life, it is said that all the holy angels will be with Him; and by this is signified that the judgment will be effected by means of heaven; for all influx of Divine truth takes place through heaven, and immediate influx can be received by no one.” Work Focus: Shun isolation and withdrawal from others. This number underscores that the Lord works through, and by means of people. Heaven is a kingdom of uses, made possible by… Read more »
